MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDER
Tachi-Aoi is the culmination of my lifelong deep relationship with
Japan. It is also the culmination of my lifelong commitment to gender equality. Tachi-Aoi
hopes to release the extraordinary potential of Japanese women for the betterment of
both themselves as well as Japanese society.
The history of Japan is replete with the many ways in which Japanese women have
been the driver of its identity. Whether it is the creation of the hiragana writing system,
Murasaki Shikibu, the first novelist, or Amaterasu Ōmikami, forebear of the Imperial line
and the “great august kami”, Japan has relied upon its women to create the unique
sense of being Japanese. Today, as Japan faces another set of profound challenges,
there can be no doubt that it will be its women who will, through their strength, creativity
and fortitude, lead Japan into its next renaissance.
I feel blessed to be able to assist in a very small way, through Tachi-Aoi, the
establishment of an ecosystem for Japanese women’s empowerment. By founding
Tachi-Aoi, I hope to be able to repay partially the debt of a lifetime for all that Japan has
meant to me.
Thank you so much for allowing me to do so.
